things germany is known for
You probably would never guess that my blog entry on Things U Never Wantend To Known in the First Place is currently no. 7 in Google's search on "things germany is known for". Now I have another horse in the race aiming for even higher ranking.

Update:
I was asked how I actually determine the ranking: Just type the five words (without the quotes) into Google's search line and count the results from top downwards. As of now I fell back to rank eight...

Stories to Come
Being on a conference can be fun. Even more so if eventually the time you spent in preparing your workshops and sessions turns out to be well invested.

That's why I feel really sorry for myself that I could not be co-lecturer on monday's power workshop about "Advanced Techniques of Test-Driven Development"; instead I spent the day in a hotel bed trying to cure a flu-like fit of severe headache and fever. So my friend Tammo would have had to cope with the 70 something participants all on his own if Stefan had not come to rescue. Many thanks to both.

However, that day of a good sleep seemed sufficient to make me recover for yesterday's talk on "Test-Driven Ajax". My ex-colleague Marco (andrena objects) and I finished the demo just-in-time and it turned out to be a fine seesion - at least for us speakers. There's a participant's report on the JAX conference blog roll.

As an outcome of all the preparation I plan to cover a few topics in the weeks to come:
- Groovy and testing Java code more dynamically
- Testing and mocking JavaScript
- How to integrate FIT and Selenium

And of course I'll put the slides on slideshare as soon as I'll be back home. Enjoy!

How Cool is That?
The latest version of Parallels Desktop for Mac comes with a feature called Coherence. It allows you to have MS Windows applications to be embedded in your standard Mac OS X desktop. Here you see Apple‘s Keynote and Pages peacefully side by side with MS Visual Studio 2005.

No, I'm not being sponsored by Parallels...

Coming of(f) Age
It's a fact that we all are getting older, some of us are even getting old. Nevertheless, it came as a surprise to me that in my current consulting and coaching engagements I usually am the team's number two in the (decreasing) age rank. And well yes there really are in fact and absolutely developers and testers who have a full decade or more to go to reach my blossoming seniority.

David J Anderson talks about New Rules for Old Geeks and makes a very valid point that work environments and expectations have to change when workers reach their best years. I no longer want to spent my nights programming or removing bugs. I need a full night's sleep to smooth the wrinkles. And I want to spent more than just the weekend with my family. To be frank, I never wanted to work five days in a row in the first place.
